As Blue Plans nationwide consolidate under various models, our approach to affiliation and partnership is distinct. It reflects our companies’ shared beliefs that the best health care is delivered and administered locally. It also preserves the ability for local health plans to make decisions aligned to local community needs. This model preserves the BCBS Vermont brand and allows for the majority of its board to be comprised of Vermont plan members. Additionally, it furthers opportunities to share resources and technology, increase scale and, most importantly, promote access to affordable coverage for the people we serve.
I’m appreciative of the team who collaborated across the enterprise to achieve this landmark accomplishment.
We are excited for the possibilities this holds for the future. Our distinct model signals opportunities for other nonprofit Blue Plans to partner with us in new and unique ways.
We look forward to partnering with the Vermont Plan, sharing resources, and delivering innovative solutions to our members, customers, provider partners and communities in the years to come.

President and CEO

Learn more about Core Competencies in newly-added Pinnacle Training Videos
As we move past the half-year mark, let us reflect on how we are performing our daily work, not just what we are doing as we focus on accomplishing our goals. Our Core Competencies provide a standard for working. They are not for a specific role, but align to a certain level.
Mastery of each competency works cohesively with your team’s efforts to accomplish the goals that are foundational to NASCO’s success. Associates are evaluated during the year-end review on their mastery of the Core Competencies that align with their level. This evaluation accounts for 50% of the overall review rating.
Based on associate feedback from the individual contributor core competency videos, NASCO has developed a set of videos for Team leads up to the Director level that provide effective and ineffective examples.
WHAT TO DO:
Check to see if you’ve been auto-enrolled in the appropriate level of videos in Pinnacle. Please take time to watch the short video by July 31 and consider how you are incorporating the behaviors in your day-to-day actions. It may be helpful to discuss with your leader their observations of how you are demonstrating these competencies. We also have courses aligned to each competency level if you are interested in developing or strengthening in a particular area.
Join your colleagues across the BCBSM enterprise who have made the pledge to “Be Inclusive”. By taking this simple action, you are showing that you value a workplace that promotes a culture of inclusion.
Once you've completed the pledge, you will receive an email (within 24 hours) with instructions for adding the "Be Inclusive" email signature. Completing the pledge is optional. You can also choose to use the NASCO anti-discrimination email signature available here.
